Singer Sheryl Crow, with the help of Chef Chuck White, has written a cookbook, "If it Makes You Healthy," featuring wholesome recipes that are "so easy that you could make them on a tour bus," noted MSNBC.com. Several of the recipes, such as trout and roasted potato salad, were featured on NBC-TV’s "The Today Show" and all include canola oil.

Skinny on Fats

A clinical nutritionist in the Auburn Citizen gave an overview of the different types of dietary fats and recommends that people consume mainly unsaturated fats from seafood and plant sources like canola oil. Of course, saturated fat should be kept to a minimum and trans fat should be eliminated, she said.

Allergic to Fish?

Dealing with food allergies can be very challenging and a reader in The Globe and Mail asked how she could get adequate intake of omega-3 fats due to being allergic to fish. The solution? Getting DHA and EPA, two types of omega-3 fats, from fish oil supplements and plant-based omega-3 fat from canola oil, walnuts or flax, said a registered dietitian.

When a reader with heart problems asked for diet advice with the caveat of not being able to do strenuous exercise, a CNN diet and fitness expert recommended a nutrient-dense, low-carbohydrate diet, including metabolism-boosting green tea, lean protein and healthy fats like canola oil. In addition, she advised a walking routine of 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day.
