  • Farmers Use Canola Biodiesel to Take Control From Big Oil

    A group of Beausejour farmers feeling the crunch from volatile diesel prices, have taken matters into their own hands. After conducting research in Europe, they will construct a $2.5 million plant using only canola oil.

    Canada's canola crush capacity is expected to increase through 2009 with the completion of several new crushing facilities. Production is anticipated to increase even more with larger projects slated for completion the following year.

    Stettler County's council has approved 155 acres of land to be used for a multi-million dollar facility that will extract oil from canola and produce biodiesel. The plant will also produce byproducts including livestock feed and is expected to develop a biofuels research university and business park.
