Canola Council of Canada
Funding Sources
The Canola Council of Canada is funded from four major sources:
- a voluntary industry levy is paid directly to the Council by Canadian canola processors and exporters;
-
program grants received from corporate and grower organization members for specific
activities - the largest sources being the canola grower check-off commissions in
each of the Prairie provinces;
- government programs, both federal and provincial; and
- funds raised by Council program areas--examples include the Council's Annual Convention, and the sale of publications.
The voluntary industry levy provides the Council with its core funding, and allows
the Council to develop programs that benefit the industry and attract other funding.
The Council’s average yearly budget is $5 million per annum. Funding sources
and allocation of expenditures are outlined in the following pie charts:
The Canola Council funding is applied to administration, utilization, crop production,
and communication services activities.
