Lethbridge: Growers can get hands-on advice for maximizing performance from their air carts and air drills at the Lethbridge Air Drill Clinic set for Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Exhibition Park, Lethbridge. Engineers and technicians who work with local dealers will be on hand to provide tips for optimizing seeding equipment performance.
Several local dealers, including Hanlon (Morris), Vanee (CNH/Flexicoil and Ezee-On), Hi-Way Service (Bourgault) and McKay Bros. (John Deere) have confirmed their attendance, and other manufacturers, including Harmon, Seed Hawk and SeedMaster, have been invited to attend.
They’ll cover topics including key maintenance points and schedules; air cart specifics such as air flow and metering system settings for canola, cereals and pulse crops; tips and suggestions on tool bar leveling, depth setting and opener performance under various soil conditions.
Two machinery sessions have been scheduled during the afternoon, allowing growers to work with their current equipment brand or with the equipment of another company to fine-tune air drill and air cart performance.
Morning agronomy sessions focused on getting ready for seeding will feature discussions of seed quality, stand establishment and fertility planning. Presenters include Ross McKenzie, Lethbridge College; Kevin Zaychuk and Sarah Foster from 20/20 Seed Labs; Don Wentz, Reduced Tillage Linkages agronomist and Matt Stanford, agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada.
Registration is at 9:30 am. The Clinic runs from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Regular cost is $35 including GST and lunch. Farmer-to-Farmer members of Reduced Tillage Linkages pay $25. Producers are encouraged to join at www.reducedtillage.ca to receive the $10 registration discount.
