Winnipeg: Arvel Lawson is now part of the Canola Council of Canada’s crop production team. Her position is Crop Production Program Manager, based out of Winnipeg.

Arvel will work on Council and canola industry programs focused on achieving the industry production target of 15 million tonnes by 2015. She will lead the Council’s Export Ready program and coordinate information transfer of canola agronomic research results along with other projects such as the anti-clubroot initiative now underway across the prairies.

Arvel grew up on a farm in south central Manitoba and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (agronomy major) from the University of Manitoba in 2002. Arvel completed a Master of Science program at the University of Manitoba in May 2005. The primary focus of her research was an on-farm study investigating the emergence timing and management of volunteer canola in spring wheat fields.

Prior to joining the Canola Council of Canada, Arvel worked with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives as a Farm Production Advisor and more recently, as the Business Development Specialist (BDS) for Oilseeds with the Crops Knowledge Centre in Carman, Manitoba. As BDS - Oilseeds, Arvel's role was focused on developing the oilseed crop industry in Manitoba through issue identification and applied research and extension activities.
