Comfort the Stomach and Mind
Ellie Krieger, R.D., Food Network show host, has a new cookbook called Comfort Food Fixes in which she presents a healthier take on comfort food favourites. One of her techniques is to use healthier ingredients – such as fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products – in large amounts along with canola oil in most of her recipes. She also tells readers to cook, not microwave; use canola oil cooking spray to prepare pans; swap fresh herbs and spices for salt; and choose whole wheat and whole grain products instead of white whenever possible.

Clean Out Your Fridge

Tuesday was National Clean Out Your Fridge Day in the U.S., but it isn’t too late to observe it. In a list of five food swaps to make in your fridge, including water for soda and whole fruits for fruit juice, Shape magazine recommends using canola oil in place of margarine as the latter is usually "highly processed and high in saturated fat" … unless, of course, it’s made with canola oil.

Tsai Sighs Over Canola Oil

Renowned chef and TV host Ming Tsai was a guest on ABC-TV’s "The View" recently where he prepared Asian dishes like chow mein and potstickers with canola oil for the hosts in honour of Whoopi Goldberg’s birthday.
