Canola Oil Can Give a Youthful Glow

Foods with high amounts of antioxidants may help prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer, and now canola oil is making the list of disease-fighting foods. Canola oil is rich in the antioxidant alphatocopherol, according to a nutrition scientist at Oregon State University. This antioxidant is also known as vitamin E and scientists think it keeps the fats in LDL cholesterol from oxidizing, which often leads to cardiovascular disease.

First Lady Celebrates Winning Recipes That Contain Canola Oil



First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated a group of students who have cooked up some tasty ways to promote healthy eating for America’s youth through school lunches. The Cooking Up Change contest challenged students to "transform the future of school food" by creating healthy alternatives to traditional school lunches. Heart-healthy canola oil is one of two recommended oils in these recipes!

Consumers Start Getting "Healthy Fats" Message

According to a report published by market research company Packaged Facts, consumers are slowly beginning to reject low-fat diets as they receive more messaging about the importance of good fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) in a diet. The company said that consumers have begun to strongly gravitate towards healthier cooking oils like canola in the past four years.

A New Deal for a New Canola Oil



Minneapolis-based Cargill and Germany-based BASF have agreed to a multi-year deal where they will develop and commercialize a new, genetically modified canola with omega-3 fat that is the "biochemical equivalent of fish oil," which research shows has many health benefits. The companies are hoping BASF’s plant engineering capabilities combined with Cargill’s large presence in the food and oils industry can work together to get this product in the market by 2020.
